Lenar Hoyt, also known as Pope Julius VI-XIV and Pope Urban XVI, was a Jesuit priest born on Pacem. He later became a Pope of the Catholic Church , and a significant figure in galactic affairs.

Biography

When he was young, he escorted father Paul Duré to Hyperion during the older priest's exile. When he returned to Pacem, he got the information that while he was in transit, all contact were lost with Duré, who was in search for the mysterious tribe Bikura on Hyperion, so he volunteered to the mission back to Hyperion to find Duré.

Near the village of the Bikura the expedition found Duré nailed to a Tesla tree , dying, but never able to die becouse of the parasite he had on the chest. Hoyt took this parasite on himself, and he got his own from the Bikura, and then the expedition destroyed the village.

After the departure from Hyperion Hoyt was under severe pain from the two parasites on his body, so when he was called to join the last Shrike pilgrimage, he was living on painkillers.

He was the first one to tell his story on the lounch hall of the treeship Yggdrasill. He started with the notes of Duré, and finished the story without telling the others he had the parasites on himself, but when he hadn't been there on time for the departure and the Consul went for him, he discovered both parasites on the body of the priest.

After geting to the Time Tombs , Hoyt faced the Shrike in one of the tombs and was killed. Brawne Lamia and Fedmahn Kassad found his body and tried to save the life of the priest, but without the Consul's ship, which was under containment in the spaceport of Keats, they didn't succeded.

After the death of Hoyt, Duré was resurrected from his dead body.

Post-Hegemony

After Duré returned to Pacem and was killed, Hoyt made a pact with the fallen AI TechnoCore, and was announced as Pope Julius. He created the Pax, the military arm of the church, and used them to take control over what was the Hagemony before The Fall. He concealed the existence of the AI TechnoCore thereafter, pretending to detest them. Every time he was killed, Duré was resurrected from his dead body and immediately killed, so that Hoyt may be revived.

The last death of Hoyt occured to him as Aenea came to Pacem. He was killed by a heart attack and Duré was resurrected from his body. This time, nobody killed Duré, since it was at the time of the rebellion in the church and the Pax.
